SpaceX might compete directly with AT&T, T-Mobile, and Verizon.

President and COO Gwynne Shotwell has apparently told investors that SpaceX plans to launch a new terrestrial Starlink service that would sell mobile contracts directly to individuals in the US — a threat that could extract better revenue-sharing deals from its current telecom partners. Analysts think a T-Mobile acquisition makes sense to accelerate the move and solve SpaceX’s spectrum deficit issue.

In a post spotted by TechCrunch, Polymarket says “a 3rd party vendor had been compromised, injecting malicious script into our frontend for some users.”

Valve tweaked its wording about what the Steam Machine can do.

A post on Resetera points out that now, instead of claiming that the Steam Machine is capable of “4K gaming at 60 FPS with FSR,” Valve’s website says that the PC offers “Up to 4k gaming with FSR 4.1.”

In our testing, the Steam Machine struggled to hit 4K/60FPS while using FSR with some titles, so this revised claim seems more realistic.

A screenshot from Valve’s website highlighting what the Steam Machine’s CPU and GPU are capable of. The text reads: “CPU & GPU Up to 4k gaming with FSR 4.1, thanks to a discrete semi-custom AMD desktop class CPU and GPU.”

Today’s Vergecast: How to train your data.

Training data is the raw material of the AI industry. Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini, and the rest are built on top of oceans of stuff. What is that stuff? Books. Blog posts. YouTube videos. News articles. All of it and more, in virtually incomprehensible quantities. Alex Reisner, a staff writer at The Atlantic who has been investigating training data, explains how AI companies get all this data, why they’d really prefer you not know what’s in it, and whether training data could ever be a fair trade.

US physical game sales recently went up — just a bit.

They were up 3 percent year-over-year from May 2025 to May 2026, according to data shared by Circana analyst Mat Piscatella. Even so, he says that the “overwhelming majority of volume is done digitally now.”

Rockstar’s choice to make GTA VI physical versions a code in the box might mean that even more games are digital-only.

IBM crams 100 billion transistors on a chip the size of a fingernail.

The company claims its new nanostack tech is the first sub-nanometer chip manufacturing process. IBM also says that nanostack can deliver up to 50 percent more performance, or 70 percent better energy efficiency than its 2nm nanosheet chips. (Though, apparently not both simultaneously.)

Brake pedals may no longer be required in autonomous vehicles.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration kicked off a new rulemaking aimed at eliminating the requirement for brake pedals as long as the vehicle is fully automated. If it passes, it would be a gift to companies like Zoox that make purpose-built AVs without traditional controls. Safety advocates have expressed concerns about these moves, arguing that its premature to eliminate the requirement for manual controls and could pose a safety risk.
